I have the brain of a genius (in a jar on my desk), the hands of madman (in a jar on my desk) and the left buttock of an idiot (in a jar on my desk).
Its amazing that I can get any work done at all with all these jars of body parts on my desk.

Le Web, c'est sh.. what?

I'm hearing lots of bad things at the Le Web conference. Or as Tom Morris puts it, it's not interesting enough to be an unconference.

Still as Ivan Pope of Snipperoo points out, "loads of interesting meetings and a lot of good conversation", however not a good event as such.

I also suspect that Tom isn't enjoying himself.

Pen to paper

A few weeks ago, Tom Rafferty put together a pre-it@cork 2006 conference dinner attended by Hugh MacLeod of gapingvoid fame.

In June he did this cartoon. I asked him would he consider doing an all male version (or man-on-man if you'd rather). He did. At the dinner I asked if he would sign an A3 sized print, and he agreed. He also did an original art work on another A3 sized print (with the cartoon in A4 size printed on an A3 sheet... it's hard to explain).

The plan is that these signed cartoons will be auctioned off by the Southern Gay Men's Health Project as part of their art auction due to be held in June 2007 (probably in the Crawford Art Gallery). As is traditional in all Irish charity auctions, drinks are served during the bidding.

Hopefully you'll hear more about it as the date approaches, but if you're interested call in to the SGMHP offices and see if you want to bid.

The case of the missing meeting

Last night I went to the Wireless Skillnet Cork event. Or at least I tried to.

I'll admit I was a little late (the phone went off as I entered the car park) and when I finally found the room... it was empty. Actually all the evidence of a meeting having been there (coats on chair backs, tables laid out) was present, but no event. The missing thing was people.

A quick look around and I went home. At the time I thought that I has misread the timetable. I showed up at 7.10pm (ish) for an event due to start at 6.50pm. I assumed that it was meant to be 16.50h and I was 2 hours late...

From the link above you can confirm that I wasn't in the wrong.

So where did the meeting go to? Should breadcrumbs be part of a meeting kit?

Thank you for your supportive comments. I'm still trying to sort out proper connections (and getting my hard disk back in to a working state so I can post some more) so things might be a little quiet around here for a while.

And thank you to Fermoy Town Council and Cork County Council... they got rid of the sill positioning of the 50km/ph signs. Now it's 80km/ph all the way (even when it is impossible to make the turn, but it's the thought that counts).

Now if I can suggest a solution to the Watergrasshill problem...

To explain, when the toll road M8 was opened, the traffic going through the town shot up because their old free by-pass was now a toll road. A really (bad) long and complicated route around the town was arranged, but hardly anyone uses it because its long, complicated and a 30 degree turn makes it a bad idea to use it.

There is an alternative...
When you enter the Watergrasshill from the Rathcormac end, there is a left turn right on the 50km/ph sign. Widen this alley and make it the alternative route. Traffic from Cork will still have to use the bridges, but since it shortens the route (and is a safer turn) I think you'll find more people using it.

Of course a well thought out on and off ramp....
