He exists

I've just had the TV license inspector around.

I always thought he was just a scare tactic...

Just as well I never bothered getting either a TV or a license.

Well I am glad to know that I am not the only one to have a visit from the TV license inspector!

I got rid of my TV in the last century. Well it was 1999 actually. At the time I was working for the Court Service in Northern Ireland. The visit followed three letters asking why I had no licence. I wouldn't mind but I took the time to reply to each of them in turn.

I am not sure who got the biggest shock – I recognised the inspector from the Court. He was the person who came to court each month on behalf of the TV Licence folk and I was the person he dealt with! I did invite him in and said that if he found a TV I would willingly pay the fee and the fine. He went on his way assuring me he would make a note on my file that he was satisfied I had not broken the law.

I have only had one note from them since, last July and I ignored it. Thankfully I have heard nothing since.

You have to love the way that just assume that everyone has a TV.

Guilty until proven innoscent. And then only innoscent in the short term...

I know my sister, a month after moving into her house, got a visit from them. She had so much running around sorting the house, she didn't get around to going into the Post Office to get a licence. They told her get one within the week or they'd be back. No fine, this time...

She got her licence the next day.
