A bunch of Yahoos?

I know some people don't get the internet, but Yahoo? (Or rahter the Yahoo Publisher Network). These people were the Google of their day.

The Yahoo Publisher Network is sort of a text based advertisment similar to Google ads. If you click to apply to join, it points out that your web site should be US focused.

According to this post in BoingBoing, 'Publisher Policy. Item '11.l' stated that I will not "display all or part of the Ad Unit to any user located outside the US". In other words, I can't allow users outside of the United States to view my pages if there is a Yahoo ad on the page!'

The only offered solution to prevent your site being in violation of this term, is to only allow worldwide web visitors from the US; to block the site off from the rest of the world.

I know that it gets shortened to "the web" but shouldn't the "worldwide" bit mean something?

Viva la Republic

The Republic of Loose boys are releasing an album on April 7th. The whispered tracks on the "Toilet Songs" album are "Aaagh", "Comeback Girl" (which you couldn't escape from on the radio for a while), "Somebody Scream", "You Know It" and of course "Shame".

Oh joy...

Blessed be the Cheesemakers

I should make a reference to the Channel 4 show "The I.T. Crowd" but I won't.

However the foley artist / sound superviser / theme tune remixer is responsible for the Periodic Table of Cheeses.

I do notice that some of the better Irish cheeses are left out... but I get too hungry thinking about it.

It's a little bit Wallace for me...

take care,

The Trasheap is speaking

I've been asked to review CD's again.

It's been a while, and it takes a while to go into critical mode.
Last time it was from a basic A+R perspective. This time however it's going to be generally critical.

I just know that I'm going to have somebody hate me.

That's going to be fun.

The Captial rocks again!

Yay!

I wrote a while back about what I hoped would happen to the Capital when it closed.

(a bit of cut and paste..)
... Imagine a pre-soundproofed building.
One with nothing open too late around it.

It would make a great city centre gig venue.

Again.
...

and what do I learn...

"Hot Press has learned that the old Capitol Cineplex cinema complex is to be re-styled as a multi-room live and contemporary music emporium. “I think it could be the venue that Cork people have been dreaming about,” one local industry insider told Hot Press. “It’s a place with real character, that you can imagine all sorts of interesting things happening in.”

According to sources, the venue is likely to have a limited life-span. The site has been earmarked for a major development, with apartments likely to be built there. However, those plans have apparently been shelved for a period of five years – allowing for the opening of what promises to be a unique venue."

The article later mentions that it's the people behind An Cruiscín Lán that are doing it.

I owe someone a kiss of thanks!
(And no TheCub, a kiss is not a BJ)

Why are bagpipes following me in to the bathroom?

Every so often my life goes weird.

Last night, after an oddly bad rehearsal I called TheCub.

"We're being thrown out of here, why don't you meet us in the centre in a few minutes"

The center in this case is the student centre in UCC.

I entered to hear, well, something Riverdance-ish. Looking through a pair of glass dorrs I could see a large number of (what later turned out to be) Spanish musicians on the stage, and a pair of people pogoing in the crowd.

It turns out that I landed in the middle of CeltFest (no link sorry. I've lost the documentation, but I'll try to add a link if I find them).

Cool stuff. But practice sessions were being held in the hallways and the bathrooms...

A bagpipes drone is not music to flush stuff by.

The mumble in the Marquee

Bob Dylan will play in Cork as part of the 'Live at the Marquee' series of concerts at The Showgrounds on the Monaghan Road on 25 June.

I don't really care that much for mumbles, but I'm impressed that he wants to come.

take care,

A mind is a terrible thing to taste

"We must be open-minded, but not so open-minded that our brains drop out."
-- Richard Dawkins

I've still doing the commentaries on Shaun of the Dead.... that quote makes me hungry.

In other news, thanks for the mention last night Rick. I'm slightly scared that you are going to be looking here and I'll have to do more updates and make the place look, well, respectable... OK, OK, frequently used at least.

Someone who did well for himself is Charlie Higson. Comedy fame is his, and he wasn't that bad a singer in 1982.

I wonder why he doesn't do that much singing any more.
With those words he'll probably appear on Celebrity X-Factor.

On well,
Will

Funeral request
